Coster? is DFM Consulting's family of manufacturing cost models. Coster? models replicate the parts list for sophisticated products and use complexity models to estimate part and assembly costs. Complexity models are based on an information analysis of part definition, that is, a simple of analysis of your part drawing or CAD drawing. When calibrated to your firm's actual production part costs, the result is a simple, flexible, and accurate cost tool that provides consistent modeling from the conceptual design phase all the way to production.
The most important advantage to Coster? over other cost models is its ability to instantly and accurately assess the cost impact of the smallest design decisions. Integrated with your CAD tool, Coster? can display to your designer a cost estimate that updates with every detail and dimension added to the drawing.
Also, because Coster? requires no special information about manufacturing processes, it can estimate the mature production cost of parts using experimental processes that may only have been attempted on the lab bench. That is, if you want to know the eventual production cost of parts made from exotic experimental composites, Coster? is your tool.
DFM Consulting can also use its complexity-based cost process to provide you manufacturing Cost Estimates, even for difficult new materials and processes.
